Maria Attanasio lives and writes in her native city, Caltagirone, Sicily. She is the author of five books of poetry, five of historical fiction, one of utopian fiction, and two of literary and social criticism. Her latest historical novel, La Ragazza di Marsiglia (2018), has so far won six literary awards, among them the prestigious Manzoni prize. (updated 10/2020)

Lisa Mullenneaux has translated, among modern Italian poets, Anna Maria Carpi, Amelia Rosselli, and Patrizia Cavalli, as well as Maria Attanasio.
