Ernesto Cardenal

Ernesto Cardenal is a Nicaraguan poet, liberation theologian, and Catholic priest. He was a nominee for the 2005 Nobel Prize in Literature and was Nicaragua’s Minister of Culture for nearly a decade. (updated 7/2010)

Jonathan Cohen is now finishing a new book of poetry titled “After Crossing the Ohio.” His latest verse-translation, From Nicaragua, With Love: Poems 1979-1986 by Earnesto Cardenal, has just been published by City Lights. (1987)
