Li Po (701–762), one of the greatest of the Tang Dynasty poets, was adding his voice to an entire tradition of Chinese antiwar poems in his AGNI poem “Fighting South of the Wall,” a recurrent theme and title as old as the Great Wall itself.

Gu Zhen is a graduate student in English at Boston University. (updated 1990)
Harry Thomas lives now in Los Angeles. (updated 5/2010)
