Hafez (1315–1390) was a Persian lyric poet and a master of the ghazal. In 2009 Harper Perennial published a translation of his work by Robert Bly, titled The Angels Knocking on the Tavern Door.
Elizabeth Gray
Elizabeth Gray studied Persian and Hindi for several years at Harvard and the University of Isfahan. She is currently completing a book of fifty ghazals from the Divan-i Hafiz-I Shirazi. (updated 1979)
