Susan Hallawell grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and now lives on the East End of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, where she works as a bartender and volunteers as a sailing instructor. She has an MFA in poetry from the University of Virginia, where she was a Hoyns Fellow. Her work has appeared in North American Review, Southern Poetry Review, and Tar River Poetry. (updated 1993)
