Norman Manea is Professor of European Culture and Writer-in-Residence at Bard College. A Romanian writer living in New York, he has published in English three books of fiction and a collection of essays. His new book, The Return of the Hooligan, a memoir, will be published next year by Farrar, Straus & Giroux. (updated 2001)
