Martha Rosler is Professor of Photography and Media Studies at Rutgers University and is on the staff of the Whitney independent Study program in New York City. She is an artist who works primarily in video, photographs and texts, and installation. Her most recent video, Born to be Sold, concerns the Baby M. “surrogate motherhood” case and its treatment in the courts and the media. She has published several books and has just completed If You Lived Here, a consideration of housing and homelessness in New York City. She has recently been in Capetown working with the Film and Allied Workers Organization and teaching at the University of Capetown. (updated 1990)
