Eugenio Montale (1896–1981) was a contemporary Italian poet. He published over eleven volumes of poetry, as well as four books of prose, and won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1975.

William Arrowsmith teaches at Boston University. His translations of Eugenio Montale’s The Storm and Other Things and The Occasions received the Premio Internazionale Eugenio Montale in 1990. (updated 2002)
