Franco Loi

Franco Loi has been influential in the revival of dialect poetry since the early 1970s. Loi, who was born in Genoa in 1930 and has been living in Milan since 1937, writes in the Milanese dialect, then translates his poems into standard Italian. His collections, which present both versions, include Stròlegh (1975), Teater (1978), L’Aria (1981), Bach (1986), Liber (1988), L’Angel (1991), Verna (1997), Amur del Temp (1999), and Isman (2002). Andrew Frisardi is a poet and translator. His own poems have been published in the Atlantic Monthly, Kenyon Review, AGNI, Hudson Review, and elsewhere. He received the Raiziss/dePalchi Prize for his translation of The Selected Poems of Guiseppe Ungaretti (Farrar, Strous, and Giroux, 2004). (updated 6/2010)
