Jorge Teillier began writing poetry at the ate of twelve. His book, El árbol de la memoria (1961), won both the Gabriela Mistral and the Santiago Municipal Prizes. Besides poetry, he writes reviews and literary articles for Chile’s leading magazines and newspapers, and takes part in literary events throughout the country. (updated 1994)
