Joel Agee
Joel Agee is the author of two memoirs, Twelve Years: An American Boyhood in East Germany and In the House of My Fear. His essays have appeared in Harper’s, AGNI, The New Yorker, The Yale Review, and elsewhere. His translations of German literary works have won, among other awards, the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator’s Prize, the Lois Roth Prize of the Modern Language Association, the ALTA National Translation Prize, and a Guggenheim fellowship. His first translation from the Greek, Aeschylus’s Prometheus Bound, was produced at the Getty Villa in Los Angeles and recently published by New York Review Books Classics. (updated 4/2017)
