Gustavo Pacheco, born in Rio de Janeiro, is the author of the story collection Alguns humanos (Tinta da China, 2018). Published simultaneously in Brazil and Portugal, Alguns humanos won the Clarice Lispector Prize of the National Library of Brazil and was shortlisted for the Oceanos and Jabuti Prizes. Pacheco has translated into Portuguese works by Roberto Arlt, César Vallejo, Julio Ramón Ribeyro, and Patricio Pron. He is, since 2019, the editor of Granta em língua portuguesa, the Portuguese-language edition of Granta. He holds a PhD in social anthropology from the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and has worked as a career diplomat since 2006, with postings in Brasilia, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Quito, where he currently lives.
