Aldwyth
Now in her seventies, Aldwyth lives on one of South Carolina’s sea islands, where for several decades she has been producing work in relative seclusion from the larger art world. A voracious reader and inveterate collector of detritus, she gathers information and images from a variety of sources—art magazines, libraries, bookstores, the internet—and serves them up “to present [her] view of art—as history, object, and life.” A new travelling exhibit, Aldwyth—work, n. / work v.:Collage and Assemblage 1991-2009, curated and organized by Mark Sloan of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, will open this summer at the Ackland Museum in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
