Oleh Lysheha (1949–2014) was a Ukrainian poet, playwright, and translator. In 1972, shortly after he was drafted into the Soviet army, he was internally exiled to Buryatia and banned from publishing his work for sixteen years. He was later invited to the Cúirt International Festival of Literature, the Harbourfront International Festival of Authors, and the Miłosz Festival. He also traveled to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar. The Selected Poems of Oleh Lysheha, translated by the author and James Brasfield, was published in 1999 by the Ukrainian Research Institute of Harvard University.
